    JOB SUMMARY

This position is located in the Fitness Department of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department, Naval Air Station Meridian, MS. The function of this position is to provide maximum opportunities for participation in a well-rounded program of planned recreational sports and physical fitness activities designed to enhance the physical, mental, and social well-being of all authorized patrons.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for assisting in the planning and implementation, day-to-day supervision, and conducting of, an ongoing program to provide conditioning, strength training, fitness events and overall physical fitness program. 

Responsible for the day to day oversight of programs and provides technical guidance to participants as required. Responsible for day-to-day proper preparation of fitness spaces for ongoing programs and events.

Provides customer service to facility users on proper exercise and weightlifting techniques, proper sports-related techniques and safety guidelines, as well as usage of various equipment in the facility. Provides personal training and group fitness instruction to patrons. 

Acts in the capacity of a Lead for the Fitness Center as assigned, monitoring the facility for adherence to Navy regulations, industry standards and local operating procedures.

Additional Duties: Performs additional duties as assigned.  May be delegated responsibilities to assist additional portions of MWR Fitness, to include, but not limited to, sports, fitness, aquatics and other recreational programming and facilities. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Thorough understanding of physical fitness programming and experience enabling the individual to independently carry out the day-to-day operations is required. 

 

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The supervisor of this position, as assigned by the Fitness Director, set general overall programming objectives. The supervisor is available for consultation as required.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Considerable walking and routine moderate to intensive exercise is required.  Work is preformed indoors and outdoors under varying weather.  Must wear protective gear while performing maintenance and preparation of fields. Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds unassisted.

Some positions have special requirements. Selection may be tentative pending the completion of the satisfactory employment reference checks and receipt of proof of education (where applicable).
