SALARY:  $11.30 PER HOUR

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

The purpose of the CY Program Assistant is to provide appropriate developmental care and instruction for children and youth ranging in age from 6 weeks to 18 years in one or more CY programs. The entry level position is designed to provide experience to qualify for higher level positions leading to full performance position. The incumbent works under close direction of supervisor or other higher qualified higher graded employee and performs the more routine child care tasks, following step-by-step instructions. *Individual must be flexible to float in different areas of program (front desk & kitchen).

 

QUALIFICATIONS

ENTRY LEVEL:  Applicant must be at least 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma (or equivalent) and have the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing. 6 months experience working with children preferred. Must have the ability to follow verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to promote and foster effective working relationships with children and youth and coworkers. Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team.

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Position is subject to special inoculation and immunization requirements as a condition of employment for working with children. Employee is required to obtain appropriate immunization against communicable diseases in accordance with recommendations from the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), which includes the influenza vaccine. Test Designated Position: In accordance with the Department of the Navy Test Designated Position listing issued 7 October 2003 this position is subject to both pre-employment and random drug testing as a condition of employment. A positive drug test, or failure to submit for testing, may become the basis for removal from this position. Must obtain and maintain a valid food handler’s card. Must possess a valid state drivers' license AND obtain appropriate credentials as required. Ability to favorably pass a pre-employment physical, provide evidence of immunization and be free from communicable disease. Ability to satisfactorily complete background checks PL 101-647 to include a National Agency Check with Written Inquires (NACI). Must be able to complete all DoN training requirements within the specified timeframes, including orientation, initial Standardized Module Training and ongoing requirements. Must satisfactorily obtain or complete required training certificates and maintain certifications or credentials required by federal, state or National Accreditation institutions utilized as part of DOD’s Child and Youth Programs.

Some positions have special requirements. Selection may be tentative pending the completion of the satisfactory employment reference checks and receipt of proof of education (where applicable).
